Beauty: The Not-So Budget Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette

When I first start blogging, I was hugely into high-street, cheap, budget makeup. I still am to an extent, I’ll happily spend hours in Boots and Superdrug, but I also have a passion for more high-end purchases.

And to be honest, I have no regrets on anything I have splurged on so far as it simply outperforms cheaper products. My eyes no longer itch when I wear eyeshadow thanks to Urban Decay. Blusher doesn’t break me out thanks to Nars. And my lips have never been in better condition, despite always, always, always wearing lipstick – a major thanks to MAC and Nuxe for that!

I’ve worn it most days, yet there’s barely a dent in the surface. A quick thirty second swipe using this and I’ll instantly look put together – my makeup glows and stays put, there’s a subtle light on my high points, and the bronze shade adds enough colour to make me look a little more alive, whilst being natural enough to contour too.

Yet despite this, the coverage is decent – on a good day, or a lazy day, I can wear just this and concealer and still not scare anyone. I just feel so much better when I’m wearing this – and I know it lasts. It’s 11pm as I write this. I put my makeup on at 7am and it’s still there…I really should go and take it off now!

Are you a budget makeup kinda girl, or a more high-end type? Have you got any particular pieces of makeup that you love?

  • This is on my wishlist but I’m kind of on the fence with these powders, some days they work for me but I think overall I prefer Guerlain Meteorites!

Desperate to try something from Guerlain, it’s just so pretty! x

  • Like you, I’ve been going for higher quality products a lot more lately. I still have a couple “cheapies” that I round out my collection with, but I’m also cutting down on how much stuff I have in general. I think that makeup is one of those things where the majority of the time, you get what you pay for. (Especially for someone with skin as sensitive as mine!)

This looks like an absolutely beautiful palette. It’s so nice to receive things like that as gifts 🙂

Most of my collection is still high-street, but I do think its worth splurging! My eyes and lips seem really sensitive, luckily my skin seems fine with what I currently use! x

At the moment I’m more of a budget beauty girl, simply because I love trying out lots of products, but I expect as I get older I’ll start to invest in quality rather than quantity!

I definitely relate to this, when I first got into makeup I just wanted lots so cheap was definitely the way to go. I reckon now I know what suits me I can ‘afford’ to splash out! x

At the moment I only wear blush and a tiny bit of mascara, and since buying a higher-end blush last month I’m really impressed with it. It barely seems like I’ve used any of it when in reality I’ve worn it maybe 5 days a week for a month. I can really see a difference between this stuff and some of the drugstore brands I’ve had in the past!

    • ninegrandstudent

I’ve recently bought my first high-end blush, and I definitely agree with you! x

  • I’m a very budget makeup girl for my everyday wear but I do love a splurge now and again to treat myself to something a little more expensive

Definitely, sometimes you need a treat! x

I want a couple of these singles but am having a hard time with spending that much on a powder. Although, I’ll probably cave and get it or ask for it as a special birthday/holiday gift. Thanks for the review!

I’m desperate for one of the single blushes now too! It’s definitely a treat product, but I love using it! x
